Adelaide Zoo Panda Enclosure
Excitement surrounding the imminent arrival of pandas Wang Wang & Funi, (the only pandas to reside in the Southern Hemisphere), was a very exciting and highly publicised event in Australia’s 2010 calendar.
Responsibility for landscaping the panda enclosures, associated infrastructure, path networks, and new entry was entrusted to us, given our proven ability to manage the tight timeframe required and our history of high quality outcomes.
Flexibility, teamwork, problem solving and implementation of safe construction techniques all contributed to the success of the project, however there were a number of challenges that had to be overcome along the way, including;
- An inflexible construction program meant landscaping was started earlier than usual with over 50 other trades on site. Therefore communication and co-operation was critical in meeting staging deadlines.
- The positioning of the super advanced trees required the use of a 200t crane with the reach to clear and manoeuvre around existing structures.
- The green roof required installation in the cleanest most economical way, which we achieved by blowing in the hundreds of cubes of growing media, and craning in the stone mulching with a hopper.
